Naruko Raw Job’s Tears Supercritical CO2 Pore Minimizing; Brightening Night Gelly

What it does: To basically brighten the skin (not correct PIH but provide overall a more glowing complexion) and hydrate the skin. Also claims to reduce the appearance of pores.

‘Red and white Job’s Tears extract brighten and smooth the skin while yeast complex controls sebum and minimises pores. Arbutin brightens the skin tone. This sleeping mask has a gel-like texture that absorbs quickly into the skin to smooth and refine the skin overnight!’

Who is it for: For all skin types – especially uneven skin tone and skin with visible pores (because the Niacinamide should minimise pores). I have sensitive. acne-prone combo skin by the way.

Note: I think those in hot humid weathers will prefer this over those in cold dry places (more cooling and soothing and very light/thin)

Directions: Apply to the fact in a thin layer before sleeping, after all your skin care routine.

How I used it: Same as above. Use it to lock in the rest of my skincare.

Notable ingredients: Arbutin, Ascorbyl Glucoside, Ascorbic Acid, Tranexamic acid, Niacinamide – all skin brightening ingredients.Hyaluronic acid, panthenol, Caffeine, biotin, Green tea extract – soothing ingredients. Also contains yeast extract and more skin hydrating and soothing ingredients.

Note: The ‘Job’s tears’ which is the name of the mask is because of the ingredient: Taiwan Jobs Tears (Coix, Lacryma-Jobi) – which is used for skin conditioning.

FYI I see a lot of soothing ingredients ad brightening ingredients. Hydrating too. A lot of extracts as well. You can see that a lot of ingredients have been added to boost the efficacy of this product and what it can do. It does however have castor oil and fragrance.

Texture: It seems like a jelly and therefore I thought that this would sit uncomfortably on top of my skin and be very messy. HOWEVER this jelly-like product is heavier than a pudding (like the dear klairs vitamin E mask) – and really sinks into the skin and dries down without an issue. it does form a very very thin occlusive layer (not as thick as the laneige sleeping masks).

What I like:

  • Surprised by how well and quick this absorbs/dries down. Almost becomes non-existent which is good for someone like me who doesn’t like thick, wet layers on while I sleep.
  • I like that many ingredients have been added to brighten, tighten and lighten the skin – so at least this isn’t JUST a hydrating sleeping mask, but the creators have thought about enhancing and boosting its purpose with added boosting ingredients.
  • No irritation / stinging / burning or itching
  • Hydrating
  • A little goes a longggg way with a product like this. Only a tiny bit is needed and the spreadability is excellent! does not cling onto the skin, glides on smoothly. So you get bang for your buck!

What I don’t like:

  • Because it absorbs and dries down so quick – it can sometimes not be moisturising enough so I would recommend adding some more hydrating/moisturising layers underneath before finishing off with this mask. (i.e. using 2 serums instead of 1)
  • Not moisturising enough in terms of the formula (i.e. not enough of a fatty/oil/ceramide addition so this is quite a watery jelly).
  • Didn’t come with a spatula
  • Would prefer no fragrance

Did it brighten my skin?: Of course a product like this requires continuous and prolonged use to see a difference. That being said, this product did not make my skin worse and I will continue to use. I’m sure this has helped improve the appearance and texture of my skin.

Overall rating and Conclusion: 4/5 – this is a hydrating but not a very moisturising sleeping mask. I’m not a fan of the fragrance / added fragrance either. I do appreciate the added ingredients to try and boost the efficacy of the product and make it more than just a hydrating sleeping mask.
